STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (May 2)- The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team concluded their season with a 15-14 loss to Franciscan in the PAC Quarterfinals.

The Bearcats led 14-12 heading into the final quarter, but the Barons shut out Saint Vincent, while scoring three goals of their own to eliminate SVC from the tournament.

Maggie Edwards led the way for SVC with six points, scoring five goals, while assisting on one goal as well.
Carolina Walters tallied five points with one goal and four assists for the Bearcats.

Kaylee Bandow scored three goals and
Bridget Doyle recorded three points as well, scoring two goals, while dishing out one helper in the loss.
Hannah-Marie Starner added two goals for Saint Vincent.

Caroline Mullineaux (one goal),
Rachel Thatcher (one assist), and
Jessica Persin (one assist) all tallied one point for SVC. Thatcher also recorded a team-high four ground balls, four caused turnovers, and eight draw controls.

It was a back-and-forth opening quarter that netted eight total goals, with each team scoring four goals each. Walters opened up the scoring, finding the back of the net on an assist from Persin to give SVC a 1-0 lead.

Franciscan answered by scoring the next three goals to take a 3-1 lead, but SVC responded. Mullineaux scored at the five-minute mark and Bandow followed that up with a goal on an assist from Thatcher to tie the game up at 3-3.

Franciscan scored with 2:08 remaining in the quarter to take a 4-3 lead but SVC answered as Doyle scored with five seconds remaining in the quarter as the game was tied 4-4 heading into the second quarter.

It was also a high-scoring second quarter. Both teams again combined for a large total of 11 goals in the quarter, with the Bearcats slightly outscoring Franciscan 6-5 in the quarter.

Francsican scored four of the first six goals in the quarter, with Saint Vincent's two goals coming from Edwards and Doyle as Francsican led 8-6 but the Bearcats had a major response.

SVC scored the next four goals in less than two minutes to regain the lead. Starner scored first on an assist from Edwards and Edwards followed on an assist from Walters to tie the match up at 8-8. Bandow then scored on another assist from Walters and Starner scored again, this time with a man-up as Saint Vincent took a 10-8 lead.

The Barons added a late first half goal, but the Bearcats still held a 10-9 lead heading into the halftime break.

In the third quarter, it was once again a very tightly contested quarter. The Bearcats once again held a slight one goal (4-3) advantage in the quarter.

Edwards scored the first two goals of the half to give SVC their biggest lead of the night of three at 12-9. Franciscan scored to cut the lead to 12-10 but Saint Vincent scored two more to remain ahead by three. Bandow scored on an assist from Doyle and Edwards followed as the Bearcats led 14-10.

From that point on it was all Franciscan. The Barons outscored the Bearcats 5-0 over the remaining 20 minutes of game play to secure their spot in the PAC semifinals.

Bailey Nicely took the loss in net for SVC, making 11 saves, playing all 60-minutes.

The Bearcats conclude their season with an 11-8 overall record and 5-4 record in the President's Athletic Conference.
