Bearcats win 2-0 at Geneva for Sixth Consecutive Victory

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Oct. 8)- The Saint Vincent women's soccer team earned their sixth consecutive victory in a 2-0 win at Geneva on Tuesday night.

Madisen Geesaman and Bella Meder scored both goals for the Bearcats (10-1-1, 4-0 PAC), both of which came in the second half. Rilyn Warner posted the shutout win in net for Saint Vincent over Geneva (1-10-1, 0-5 PAC).

Tanisha Grewal led the Bearcats with two shots on goal in the win. Jude Galvin along with Geesaman and Meder recorded the Bearcats other three shots on goal. Warner's shutout included the four saves she made in the win for the Bearcats as well.

It was a back-and-forth first half as both teams had great scoring opportunities, but neither was able to capitalize as the game was scoreless at the half. Geneva outshot the Bearcats but a slight 4-3 margin in the opening half. Corner kicks were also 2-1 in favor of the GT's, while the Bearcats totaled four fouls compared to Geneva's two in the half.

It was a quick start out of the half for SVC. As Geesaman was moving the ball towards the goal, she was fouled, allowing her an opportunity with a penalty kick. She capitalized on that opportunity, finding an open spot on the right side of the net to give Saint Vincent a 1-0 advantage.

SVC never looked back, as they continued to attack offensively. 20 minutes after Geesaman's goal, Saint Vincent added an insurance goal. Meder scored her goal off of a corner kick from Addie Fisher who picked up the assist, moving the SVC lead to 2-0.

Geneva had a late scoring opportunity as they hit the crossbar, but the Bearcats defense kicked the ball back to midfield and later held on for the shutout victory.

Shots during the contest were very even with Saint Vincent holding a slight 12-11 advantage, including 5-4 in shots on goal. Corner kicks were 4-3 in favor of the Bearcats as well. Saint Vincent also committed nine fouls, compared to the GT's seven over the course of the contest.

The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, October 12 when they return home to take on Waynesburg in a PAC matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 12 noon at UPMC Field on Saturday.
