Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

SVC falls 1-0 in PAC semis

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Nov. 6) – The Saint Vincent women's soccer team saw its best season in program history come to an end on Wednesday night with a 1-0 loss at Westminster College in the semifinals of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.

The Bearcats close the season with a 13-6-1 overall record, marking the most wins in a season in the team's 31-year history. The team was making its first ever appearance in the PAC semifinals, after earning a 2-1 win over Bethany College in the tournament's opening round on Saturday.

The Titans (11-5-1) were on the attack from the start, tallying eight shots and three corner kicks over the game's opening 11 minutes. Led by freshman goalkeeper Rilyn Warner, the Bearcat defense held strong, as the rookie turned in three saves over the span.

Westminster continued to hold the advantage in possession throughout the half, before the Bearcats' had their first sustained attack in the 43rd minute in which they generated a pair of shots, including a blast on goal by senior Tanisha Grewal that was saved to keep the game scoreless at the intermission.

Over the opening 45 minutes, Westminster held a 17-2 margin in shots, with Warner turning in eight first-half saves.

The teams traded shots and corner kicks over the opening five minutes of the second half, before another Westminster offensive attack generated three shots in a 90-second span, with Warner turning in two more saves in the 62nd minute.

The Bearcats' next scoring chance came in the 72nd minute, when Cori Bieber blasted a free kick on goal that was saved, before Westminster put together another late charge, posting three shots between the 77th and 81st minutes, with Warner making two more saves.

The Titans continued to control possession and in the 84th minute were granted a free kick just outside the 18-yard box after an SVC foul. Natalie Vilchek sent it inside the crossbar, just out of the reach of a leaping Warner, for the game's first goal with 5:35 left in regulation.

With just over four minutes left, Warner prevented a Westminster insurance goal by making her 14th save of the night, before the Bearcats looked to put together one last attack, which led to a shot on goal by Emma Koller that was saved with 2:50 left on the clock. It marked the final scoring chance of the night for either team.

With the win, Westminster, the PAC Championship Tournament's top seed, moves on to host No. 2 Grove City in Saturday's PAC title match.

For the game, Westminster held a 28-6 advantage in shots, and a 6-2 margin in corner kicks.

Grewal paced SVC with two shots, while Bieber, Koller, Jude Galvin and Jordan Kirkwood each took one attempt.

The loss concludes the five-year career of Grewal, who will graduate as the program's all-time lead with 54 career goals, and tied for the team's all-time lead with 120 career points.

The team's 13 wins this season come on the heels of a 10-4-4 2023 campaign, marking just the third time in team history – and first since 2012-13 – in which they recorded double-digit wins in back-to-back seasons. The 23 wins are also the most in a two-year span for the team in program history.
