WASHINGTON, Pa. (Apr. 24)- The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team earned a 17-5 road win at Washington and Jefferson on Wednesday night.
The Bearcats (7-8, 5-2 PAC) led just 3-2 after the opening quarter but outscored W&J (3-10, 2-5 PAC) 14-3 over the final three quarters of the contest.
Caleb Hawkins led the way for the Bearcats with a five point game, scoring four goals and dishing out one assist as well.
Luke Hartle had five points as well with three goals and two assists.
Owen Rogers had three points (one goal, two assists), while
Jordan Billet and
Eli Hartle both had two points.
Jacob Crumling had a big night as well with one goal and three assists.
Justin Vezzi,
Noah Schratz,
Justin Wodarek,
Tyler Harpst, and
Hayden Nowotarski all recorded a point as well.
Brady Beard recorded eight ground balls and
AJ Bricker had three caused turnovers.Â
Beard also went 11-15 in faceoffs, while
Colin Cooper was 7-8 in the faceoff circle for SVC.
Jack Zayas got the win in goal, making five saves and allowing three goals.
Bryan Millward made a save as well, while also giving up two goals.
The Presidents scored the first two goals to take a 2-0 lead about halfway through the opening quarter. Saint Vincent quickly answered, scoring three in a row to take a 3-2 lead. Hawkins scored two and Billet scored one to give SVc a 3-2 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
It was all Bearcats in the second quarter. SVC out scored W&J 7-1 in the quarter. Sox different Saint Vincent players scored in the quarter with
Luke Hartle scoring two of those goals.
Saint Vincent continued on the attack after the half. The Bearcats shutout the Presidents 4-0 in the quarter. Hartle, Hawkins, Billet, and Harpst scored the SVC goals in the third quarter.Â
With the game in hand for Saint Vincent, they out scored the Presidents 3-2 in the fourth. Hartle, Schratz, and Vezzi scored for SVC.Â
Saint Vincent outshot W&J 50-20, including 33-11 in shots on goal. The Bearcats were a perfect 20-20 on clear attempts, while the Presidents were 22-28. Ground balls were 47-21 in favor of SVc as well.
The Bearcats conclude their regular season on Saturday, April 27, with a home matchup against Chatham at UPMC Field in Latrobe. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with senior night festivities taking place prior to the game.Â
