GROVE CITY, Pa. (April 3) – The Saint Vincent men's lacrosse team saw its three-game winning streak snapped with a 20-5 loss at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Grove City College.
Caleb Hawkins recorded four points to lead Saint Vincent (3-7, 1-1 PAC) scoring one goal with three assists.
Hawkins was one of five goal-scorers for the Bearcats, as he was joined by
Jordan Billet,
Tyler Harpst,
Justin Wodarek and
Hayden Nowotarski. Nowotarski's goal was the first of his career, and was assisted by
Ryan Rosenberger, who recorded his first collegiate point.
Grove City (8-4, 3-0 PAC) jumped out to a big lead early on, scoring eight unanswered goals over the first 10 minutes of play, and the Bearcats were unable to recover.
The Wolverines outshot the Bearcats 59-20, while holding a 42-26 advantage in ground balls and winning 17 of the game's 27 faceoffs.
Brady Beard led the Bearcats with six ground balls, while tying with
RJ Kenna for the team lead with two caused turnovers.
Garrett Ritts scooped up four ground balls, and
Benjamin Wohlin three.
Ritts recorded 11 saves in goal.
Matt Blythe and Zachary Hougan each scored four goals to pace Grove City.
The Bearcats will now have a weeklong layoff before returning home to face PAC foe Westminster at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, at UPMC Field.
