HIRAM, Ohio (Sept. 1) – The Saint Vincent women's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the young season with a convincing 3-0 road victory over Hiram.
After a scoreless first half in which the teams combined for just eight shots, Saint Vincent (2-0) turned it on in the second frame, scoring all three goals and outshooting Hiram (0-1) by a 20-3 margin over the final 45 minutes.
The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the second half. Awarded a free kick 20 yards out,
Tanisha Grewal's blast was initially saved, but
Madisen Geesaman promptly pounced on the rebound and tapped it home for her first goal of the season.
SVC struck again 10 minutes later. Grewal made a long run up the left wing and after dribbling through a defender, sent a ball through traffic onto the doorstep, where it perfectly met the left foot of
Emma Koller, who one-timed it into the back of the net to double up the Bearcat lead.
The Bearcats added on in the 71st minute when
Bella Meder intercepted a Hiram clearing attempt, turned, and lofted a shot from 25 yards out that curled perfectly inside the upper right corner of the net for her first career tally to make it 3-0 and close out the day's scoring.
Fueled by its dominant second half, Saint Vincent owned a 25-7 margin in shots for the game, while taking four of the game's five corner kicks.
Rookie
Rilyn Warner remained perfect in goal, recording three saves for the clean sheet.
Grewal led both sides with seven shots, including four on goal, and was one of seven Bearcats credited with at least two attempts.
Saint Vincent will be back on the road when it returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 4, making the short trek to Pitt-Greensburg to take on the Bobcats in the Battle for Route 30. Opening kick is slated for 4 p.m.
