Galvin Leads Bearcats in 4-0 Win at La Roche

McCandless, Pa. (Sept. 19)- The Saint Vincent women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 shutout victory in a non-conference match at La Roche on Thursday evening.

Jude Galvin scored two first half goals for the Bearcats (5-1-1), before Tanisha Grewal and Emma Koller both scored in the second half to allow the Bearcats to coast past La Roche (2-5) in the non-conference match.

Saint Vincent outshot the Redhawks by a 22-6 margin, including 15-3 in a game dominated by the Bearcats in their offensive end.

Rilyn Warner earned the shutout victory in net for SVC, making three saves over the course of the contest.

On top of her two goals, Galvin added two more shots on goal for a total of four over the course of the match. Grewal recorded six shots total, including four on goal as well. Koller also totaled six shots with four being on goal.

Giovanna Ferraro, Bella Meder, and Kataira Rhodes all recorded a shot on goal coming off the bench for SVC.

In the first five minutes of the game, La Roche controlled their ball in their offensive end before the Bearcats took full control. Warner made a save in those opening five minutes that helped boost the momentum for Saint Vincent.

Galvin then scored her first goal at the nine-minute mark on a cross pass from Emma Koller giving the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage.

SVC continued on the attack as just under ten minutes later, Galvin found the back of the net for the second time in the contest, this one being unassisted.

The final 20 minutes in the half were again dominated by the Bearcats, but that 2-0 score held strong going into the half. Saint Vincent outshot the Redhawks by a 10-2 margin in the opening half.

It was much of the same story in the second half, however the Bearcats got off to a quicker start this time around. Just 45 seconds into the half Grewal found the back of the net on a ball off the post to increase the Bearcats lead to 3-0.

After continuing to force the ball deep into their offensive end, Koller then found the net in the 68th minute for their final score of the day as the Bearcats cruised to the 4-0 victory.

Corner kicks were 8-6 in favor of La Roche. Alexandra Mecchia led the way for the Red Hawks with two of their three shots on goal.

The Bearcats will enjoy a few days of rest before beginning their PAC slate of games with a trip to Franciscan next Wednesday, September 25. The match in Steubenville is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
