TEAM RESULTS
The Saint Vincent men's team battled throughout the day in the Western PA Baker Shootout, but fell just 16 pins short of a tournament win at the event, hosted by the team at Hillview Lanes in Greensburg.
In the field of nine varsity men's teams, the SVC men found themselves in second place after the first of seven Baker team game rounds, each consisting of four games for a total of 28 games on the day.  The team shot a four-game total of 759 (189.7 average) in the first block.
The team dropped to fourth place after the second round, but then jumped to second after the 12th game, with a round of 821, a 205.2 average. The team then jumped to first place as lane conditions started to deteriorate thanks to a tough oil pattern. The team then held onto first place through the next two rounds, but entering the seventh and final block, SVC had a team total of 4453 pins, leading Shawnee State University by just 5 pins overall, and the University of Akron by only 12.
In the final round, the Bearcats averaged 182, giving them a 28-game total of 5181, or 185 per game. However, both Shawnee State and Akron fared slightly better, and took home the top-2 spots. The Bears of SSU finished with a team total of 5197 pins, while the Akron Zips ended at 5185, just four pins ahead of SVC. SUNY-Erie wasn't far behind, with 5147, to finish fourth.
For the day, Saint Vincent was led on the scoresheet by
James Gatto, with a 194.2 average. He was followed by
Brandon Dunmire (186.8) and
Dominick Spence (182.2). Dunmire converted more than 88% of his spares on the day.
The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, February 8 with the fourth and final Ohio Bowling Conference event of the season at The Palace in Columbus, Ohio.
