LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 25)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team earned a 2-0 win in their home regular season finale on Saturday afternoon against Chatham at UPMC Field.
The Bearcats (11-3-4, 5-2-3 PAC) clinched their first ever Presidents Athletic Conference playoff berth with the win. SVC scored one goal in each half to down the Cougars.
Jayden Gyan and
Daniel Maddock scored the two goals for Saint Vincent. Maddock also assisted on Gyan's goal as well.
Kameron Rock earned a three-save shutout in net as well.
Javier Torres,
Jalani Campbell,
Jack Billick,
Will LaBruno, and
Oziel Bonola-Soriano all recorded shots on goal for Saint Vincent as well.
Just under 16 minutes into the first half, Maddock sent a ball towards the goal and found Gyan who put it in the net to give Saint Vincent a 1-0 lead early.Â
That 1-0 lead would hold going into the halftime break. Just six minutes out of the halftime break, Maddock drew a foul near the goal, awarding him a penalty kick, a kick he successfully put in the net to double the Saint Vincent lead.
Strong defense led the Bearcats over the rest of the half as they held on for the big PAC victory.
Saint Vincent outshot Chatham by a 14-5 margin, including 9-3 in shots on goal. Corner kicks were 5-1 in favor of Saint Vincent as well.
The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, October 29 traveling to Allegheny for their regular season finale. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM at Allegheny on Wednesday evening.
