LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 4)- The Saint Vincent College football team was defeated 42-14 by Case Western Reserve on Homecoming on Saturday afternoon at Chuck Noll Field.
The Bearcats (1-4, 0-3 PAC) were shut out for the first three quarters of the game, while allowing the Spartans (2-2, 2-1 PAC) to score 35 over that portion. Saint Vincent scored all 14 of their points in the final quarter.
Offensively,
Chris Downs continued his impressive season, catching six passes for 131 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback,
Jake Phillips threw for 259 yard and a tocuhdown. Additionally,
Jakub Pickett caught four passes for 66 yards and
Tristan Doy also caught four passes for 40 yards.
Julian Walker carried the ball ten times for 80 yards for SVC, while
Matthew Davis scored a rushing touchdown.
Nathan Parker led SVC defensively with nine total tackles, including a solo tackle and 1.5 sacks.
Keegan O'Brien recorded eight tackles, including four solo tackles and an interception as well.
Devon Dean-Coles and
Patrick Connolly both recorded interceptions as well.
Case Western scored twice in both the first and second quarters to hold a 28-0 lead at the half. The Spartans added another touchdown in the in each of the third and fourth. Trailing 35-0, Phillips found Downs for a 28-yard touchdown to cut the lead to 35-7. After another Case Western score Davis rushed in from two yards out to make the score 42-14 with 1:57 remaining.
The Spartans ran the clock out on their ensuing possession to down the Bearcats for their fourth straight loss.
Case outgained the Bearcats 460-364 over the course of the game.Â
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, October 11 with a trip to Bethany to take on the Bison. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday night at Bethany.
