PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Apr. 15)- The Saint Vincent softball team split a Presidents Athletic Conference night doubleheader at Chatham on Wednesday.
The Bearcats (17-15, 5-9 PAC) fell to the Cougars 10-5 in the opener of the doubleheader, before earning a 5-0 shutout win in game two to earn the split.
Game 1- Chatham 10, Saint Vincent 5
Chatham jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, before the Bearcats cut the lead to 5-3 after a three run third inning. Chatham outscored SVC 5-2 over the remaining innings to hand Saint Vincent the loss.
Josey Michalski led Saint Vincent with one hit and three RBI's. Her lone hit was a three-run homer for SVC in the third inning.
Eva Farone,
Alyssa Henderson,
Lily Koller, and
Taylor Williams all recorded one hit each for the Bearcats as well.
Meghan Braun took the loss in the circle for Saint Vincent, pitching two innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits, while striking out one and walking one as well.
The Cougars scored two in the first and added three more runs in the second to quickly open up to a 5-0 lead. Michalski answered for the Bearcats in the third, ripping a three-run homer to cut the Cougars lead to 5-3.Â
Chatham added a run in the bottom of the third to push their lead back to 6-3. Farone scored on a wild pitch for the Bearcats in the fifth, but Chatham added four insurance runs in the sixth as the Bearcats found themselves trailing 10-4 heading into the final inning. Koller hit an RBI-single in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats fell short.
Game 2- Saint Vincent 5, Chatham 0
Saint Vincent scored one run in each of the first, fourth, and fifth innings to put the Bearcats up 3-0. SVC then added two more in the sixth and shut the Cougars down to earn the shutout.
Olivia Bushore tossed three scoreless for the Bearcats, allowing four hits, while striking out two and walking one.
Eva Farone relieved Bushore and pitched four scoreless, allowing two hits, while striking out one and walking one as well.
Haley Hamilton,
Alyssa Henderson, and
Taylor Williams all recorded two hits for Saint Vincent in the win, while Williams also drove in two runs. Farone,
Dakota Hershberger,
Abby Bauer, and
Lily Rush all recorded one hit each for SVC as well.
Favero got the scoring started for Saint Vincent in the first inning, scoring on an error to put the Bearcats up 1-0. After a scoreless second and third inning, Williams recorded an RBI-single in the fourth, scoring Hamilton to increase the SVC lead to 2-0.
SVC added another run in the fifth, before a two-RBI triple from Williams in the sixth gave the Bearcats two more insurance runs.Â
Farone slammed the door shut on the Cougars, shutting them down in the sixth and seventh to preserve the shutout.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Thursday, April 17 with a home PAC matchup against Bethany. First pitch for game one is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
