LATROBE, Pa. (Apr. 9)- The Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team fell to Grove City by a score of 14-2 in a home Presidents Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday night at UPMC Field.
The Bearcats (3-9, 1-5 PAC) were shutout in the opening half, before going on to outscore Grove City (8-5, 7-0 PAC) 2-1 in the second half with the mercy rule clock on.
Carolina Walters and
Melanie Seefeldt scored the lone goals for Saint Vincent in the loss.
Cara Dupilka assisted on one goal for the Bearcats as well.
Bethany Smith scooped up three ground balls, while causing two turnovers.
Ava Baeslach added two ground ball pickups, as did
Katie Smith and
Cassidy Rega. Rega took the loss in net, making eight saves for SVC.
It was all Grove City in the first half. The Wolverines scored eight first quarter goals and added five goals in the second quarter to hold a 13-0 lead at the half. Walters scored her goal in the third quarter to end the shutout, while Seefeldt scored on an assist from Dupilka in the fourth.
Saint Vincent was 20-28 on clears and scooped up 15 ground balls as a team.
SVC will look to get back on track on Saturday, April 12 as they travel to Franciscan for a road PAC matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in Steubenville, Ohio.
