NEW CONCORD, Ohio (Aug. 31)- The Saint Vincent women's soccer team earned their second consecuitve shut out to open the season, defeating Muskingum 3-0 on the road on Sunday afternoon.
The Bearcats (2-0) were led by sophomore
Lexi Graham who netted two of SVC's three goals in the win.
Emma Koller also scored a goal and recorded one assist for Saint Vincent in the win as well.
Defensively,
Rilyn Warner recorded her second straight shut out in net, making four saves.
It was a slow start offensively for both teams as the game remained scoreless 20 minutes in. Graham got the Bearcats on the board with her first goal of the season to put Saint Vincent up 1-0 and the Bearcats would hold that lead through the half. SVC out shot the Muskies 6-4 in the first half.
In the second half, it was all Saint Vincent. Just six minutes into the half, Graham scored on an assist from Koller to double the Bearcats lead. After 20 minutes of no scoring, Koller added a goal for the Bearcats to increase their lead to 3-0.
The Bearcat defense held strong over the final 20 minutes to convert on their second consecutive win and shut out to open the season. SVC out shot Muskingum 16-2 in the second half.
Overall, shots were 22-6 in favor of SVC, including 7-4 in shots on goal. Corner kicks were 5-4 in favor of the Bearcats as well.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, September 6 as they host Marymount in a non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening at UPMC Field.
