Men's soccer falls in PAC opener to Franciscan

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 23)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team fell in their Presidents Athletic Conference opener by a score of 4-1 to Franciscan on Tuesday night at UPMC Field.

The Bearcats (6-2-1, 0-1 PAC) scored the first goal of the game just over three minutes in to take a 1-0 lead. However, Franciscan (3-6, 1-0 PAC) outscored them 4-0 the rest of the way to hand Saint Vincent the loss.

Daniel Maddock scored Saint Vincent's lone goal in the loss. Cameron Mulvanny picked up the assist on the goal. Kameron Rock took the loss in net, making four saves for the Bearcats.

It was an extremely fast start offensively for both the Bearcats and the Barons. Just over three minutes into the game, Maddock scored on an assist from Mulvanny to put SVC up 1-0. Just under two minutes later, Franciscan scored to tie the game at 1-1.

After a slight pause in the scoring, Franciscan added another goal in the 23rd minute to take a 2-1 lead, a lead they'd never give back to the Bearcats. The Barons scored two more in the second half with one of those coming with just over a minute remaining in the game.

Shots were fairly even with Franciscan leading by a slight 12-10 margin and 8-5 in shots on goal. The Barons totaled seven corner kicks, while SVC recorded just two of their own. Fouls were 15-13 with Franciscan recording 15.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, September 27 with a PAC home PAC matchup against Thiel. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at UPMC Field on Saturday evening.
