Bearcats play to 3-3 draw in PAC opener against Franciscan

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 24)- The Saint Vincent women's soccer team played to a 3-3 draw against Franciscan in their Presidents Athletic Conference opener on Wednesday night at UPMC Field.

The Bearcats (6-1-1, 0-0-1 PAC) and Barons (1-5-1, 0-0-1 PAC) played a back-and-forth scoring game in both team's conference opener.

Jude Galvin, Alexis Arlaus, and Emma Koller scored the three Saint Vincent goals. Cori Bieber and Jordan Kirkwood both picked up assists in the draw as well for Saint Vincent. Rilyn Warner totaled five saves in net for the Bearcats.

Total shots were fairly even over the course of the contest as Franciscan led the category by a slight 15-13 margin. Shots on goal were 8-5 in favor of the Barons as well. 

Franciscan totaled eight corner kicks in comparison to SVC's three on their end.

After a scoreless opening 15 minutes, Galvin scored for the Bearcats to give them a 1-0 lead. Her goal came on an assist from Kirkwood in the 17th minute. Just under one minute later, Franciscan tied it at 1-1. That 1-1 tie would hold going into the halftime break.

About 20 minutes into the second half, Arlaus scored to give the Bearcats the lead back at 2-1. She scored her goal on an assist from Bieber. The back-and-forth battle continued as just over ten minutes later Franciscan scored to tie the match at 2-2.

Three minutes later Saint Vincent scored to regain the lead. Koller found the back of the net in the 81st minute to give the Bearcats a 3-2 lead. Franciscan had one last push in them as they scored in 84th minute to tie the game at 3-3. Saint Vincent had a couple of late scoring opportunities, but the Franciscan defense held strong to force the draw.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, September 27 as they host Thiel in a PAC matchup. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at UPMC Field with senior day festivities taking place prior to the game.
