LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 5)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team used a second half offensive outburst to breeze past Penn State-Beaver with a 6-0 non-conference victory.
Saint Vincent (3-1) and Penn State-Beaver played the first half almost to a scoreless tie, before a goal with one second left in the half gave SVC a 1-0 advantage. The Bearcats broke the game open with five goals in the second half to breeze past the Lions for the non-conference victory.
The Bearcats outshot Beaver by a 48-3 margin, including 19-1 in shots on goal over the course of the win. Freshman
Emerson Kiss led the way for Saint Vincent scoring two goals in the second half.
Daniel Maddock,
Iverson Agyei,
Ben Bethke, and
Oziel Bonola-Soriano all added one goal each in the win for the Bearcats as well.
Agyei also picked up two assists, while Maddock,
Coeurich Pierre, and
Cameron Mulvanny assisted on goals for Saint Vincent as well.
Saint Vincent dominated for the entirety of the first half in their offensive end, but were unable to find the back of the net until the last second of the half. Bethke found the back of the net on Agyei's first assist of the night to give SVC a 1-0 lead. The Bearcats outshot Penn State-Beaver by a 22-3 margin in the opening half.
It was all Bearcats in the second half. A little over one minute into the half, Maddock scored on an assist from Mulvanny to double the Saint Vincent lead. Eight minutes later Bonola-Soriano scored on an assist from Maddock to give Saint Vincent a 3-0 advantage.
Kiss scored two of the final three goals, while Agyei scored late in the second half for SVC as well.
SVC out shot Beaver by a 26-0 margin in the second half. Corner kicks were 14-1 in favor of Saint Vincent as well.
Grant Archuleta recorded the shut out in net, making one save for the Bearcats.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Sunday, September 7 as they play host to Wabash in another non-conference matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday at UPMC Field.
