Bearcats down Wabash at home to win second in a row

LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 7)- The Saint Vincent men's soccer team scored an impressive 2-1 home non-conference victory against Wabash at UPMC Field on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Bearcats (4-1) have now won four of their first five games this season to continue the hot start to the season. SVC scored late in the first half, before adding an early second half goal and holding the Little Giants the rest of the way.

Saint Vincent was out shot by the Little Giants 23-11 and 8-6 in shots on goal over the course of the win. Iverson Agyei and Daniel Maddock netted the Bearcats two goals in the win. Kameron Rock was very impressive all day for SVC, making seven saves, while allowing just the one goal.

After a scoreless opening 35 minutes, Agyei continued his strong performance this weekend with a goal on an assist from Ben Bethke to give the Bearcats an important 1-0 lead, which would hold going into the halftime break.

In the second half, the Bearcats continued their momentum as Maddock scored on an assist from Jose Hurtado 12 minutes into the half to double the Bearcats lead.

Wabash made a late push, scoring in the 75th minute to cut the lead to 2-1. The Little Giants had multiple scoring chances late but the Bearcats defense led by Rock held strong to hold on for the non-conference victory.

Saint Vincent totaled three corner kicks in the win, while Wabash had five corners.

The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, September 10 traveling to Penn State-Altoona for their first road matchup of the season. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
