Men's tennis improves to 4-0 after 7-0 win against Carlow

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 22) – The Saint Vincent men's tennis team continued its dominant start to the spring campaign with a 7-0 home victory over Carlow University Sunday afternoon at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
 
With the win, the Bearcats improved to 4-0 overall on the season, while the Celtics fell to 0-1.
 
Saint Vincent set the tone early, clinching the doubles point with a clean sweep across all three flights. At No. 1 doubles, Braden Yokopenic and Blaise Bukovac delivered a 6-1 win, and Matthew Sadusky and Brady Johnson followed with a 6-1 triumph at No. 2.
 
The duo of Julien Vonovier and J.T. Gockel closed the set out with a 6-1 victory at No. 3, giving the Bearcats early momentum heading into singles play.
 
In singles competition, Saint Vincent was nearly flawless. Blaise Bukovac posted a straight set win at No. 1 singles, taking care of business by a 6-0, 6-2 margin. At No. 2, Matthew Sadusky also rolled in straight sets (6-2, 6-1), extending the Bearcats' advantage.
 
Brady Johnson continued SVC's dominance at No. 3 with a 6-0, 6-3 victory, while J.T. Gockel added a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the fourth singles position.
 
Saint Vincent's strength in depth showed through the rest of the lineup as well, with William Hinkson IV winning at No. 5 singles (6-0, 6-0) and Timothy Jakubek closing out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6. The Bearcats' unrelenting pressure and balanced attack kept Carlow on its heels throughout the match and allowed Saint Vincent to secure the clean sweep.
 
The Bearcats return to action on Monday, March 2 as they head south for spring break and compete against Lebanon Valley in Hilton Head, S.C. The match's start time is to be determined.
