Softball falls in PAC opening doubleheader to Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio (Mar. 21)- The Saint Vincent softball team fell in their Presidents Athletic Conference opening doubleheader at Hiram on Saturday afternoon.
 
SVC lost the opener 15-2, before falling 6-4 in the finale of the doubleheader.
 
Game 1- Hiram 15, Saint Vincent 2 (5 Innings)
The Saint Vincent softball team fell to Hiram College by a score of 15-2 in five innings on Saturday afternoon in the opener of the doubleheader.
 
Saint Vincent jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Eva Farone drew a walk and Emily Dudenhoeffer followed with a double to left center, before Josey Michalski doubled to left field to drive in both runners and give the Bearcats the early advantage.
 
Hiram answered with three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-2 lead, then broke the game open with eight runs in the second inning to extend its advantage to 11-2. The Terriers added four more runs in the fourth inning to account for the 15-2 final.
 
Michalski led Saint Vincent offensively with a double and two RBI. Dudenhoeffer, Abby Bauer and Alyssa Henderson each added one hit, while Farone and Dudenhoeffer scored the Bearcats' two runs. Saint Vincent finished with four hits in the loss.
 
A.J. Arnal took the loss in the circle, allowing seven runs on five hits over 1.1 innings, while striking out three and walking four.
 
 Eva Farone worked one-third of an inning in relief, surrendering four runs, three earned, on two hits. Mya McHugh pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits.
 
Hiram totaled 11 hits in the win, led by Ari Torres, who went 3-for-3 with four runs scored and three RBI, and Megan Moser, who finished 3-for-4 with four RBI. Daynna Mekaru also drove in three runs for the Terriers.

Game 2- Hiram 6, Saint Vincent 4
The Saint Vincent College softball team came up just short in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at Hiram College, falling to the Terriers by a 6-4 score at Herndon Field.
 
Hiram struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, taking a 1-0 lead on an unearned run after Ari Torres scored on a Saint Vincent fielding error. The Bearcats answered in a big way in the top of the third, pushing across four runs to move in front 4-1.
 
Samantha Farrell began the rally and later scored, while Eva Farone delivered an RBI single up the middle to tie the game. Emily Dudenhoeffer followed with an RBI single of her own, and Shayna Perigo capped the inning with a two-run single down the left field line to plate Josey Michalski and Farone.
 
The Terriers got one run back in the bottom of the third on an RBI groundout by Megan Moser to trim the deficit to 4-2, before taking control in the fifth inning.
 
Hiram scored four times in the frame, highlighted by RBI doubles from Moser and Hannah Marlow, a sacrifice fly from Daynna Mekaru and an RBI single by Hannah Schimmoeller, to reclaim a 6-4 advantage.
 
Dudenhoeffer paced the Bearcats offensively by going 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Perigo finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
 
Farone went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored, and Farrell, Mackenzie Favero and Alyssa Henderson each added a hit. Farrell and Favero both doubled, while Farrell also stole a base. As a team, Saint Vincent finished with seven hits and left seven runners on base.
 
In the circle, Natalie Bizup took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on 12 hits over 5.0 innings. A.J. Arnal worked the sixth inning in relief and did not allow a run. Hiram finished with 13 hits in the win.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Tuesday, March 24 with a home non-conference doubleheader against La Roche. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
