Softball falls in doubleheader at Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (March 25) — The Saint Vincent softball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Geneva on Wednesday evening.
 
The Bearcats lost both games by a score of 9-1.
 
Game 1- Geneva 9, Saint Vincent 1 (5 Innings)
The Saint Vincent College softball team dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Geneva College 9-1 in five innings.
 
Geneva struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, as Molly Shelley scored on a Justine Robbins RBI groundout to give the Golden Tornadoes an early 1-0 lead.
 
Geneva then added three more runs in the second inning. Faith Bonar scored on a strikeout and throw to first, Aliya Ottaviani came home on an Isabela Skrlac RBI single, and Skrlac later scored on a Kyra Wilcox bunt single to make it 4-0.
 
Saint Vincent got on the board in the top of the fourth. Macie McHugh scored the Bearcats' lone run of the game on an Abby Bauer RBI single to left field, with Shayna Perigo and Josey Michalski also advancing on the play to cut the deficit to 4-1.
 
Geneva answered immediately in the bottom half, however, getting RBI doubles from Wilcox and Robbins to push the lead to 6-1.
 
The Golden Tornadoes added three more runs in the fifth to end the game early. Katelynn Knepper doubled down the left field line to drive in Madison Rapp and Ottaviani, before Shelley brought home Stacey Rodriguez on a groundout to account for the 9-1 final.
 
Saint Vincent finished with 10 hits in the loss, led by Mackenzie Favero and Alyssa Henderson with two hits apiece. Josey Michalski also recorded a two-hit game, while Eva Farone, Emily Dudenhoeffer, Shayna Perigo, and Bauer each added one hit. Bauer drove in the Bearcats' only run, and Macie McHugh scored it after entering as a pinch runner.
 
In the circle, A.J. Arnal took the loss after allowing six runs, three earned, on eight hits over 4.0 innings, striking out two and walking two. Mya McHugh worked the final third of an inning, allowing three runs on four hits.
 
For Geneva, McKenzie Rapp earned the win to improve to 5-2, while Jorja Koerner recorded the save. Offensively, Wilcox went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Robbins was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Skrlac finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Ottaviani also had two hits and scored twice.
 
Game 2- Geneva 9, Saint Vincent 1 (5 Innings)
The Saint Vincent College softball team dropped the second game of Wednesday's Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader, falling to Geneva College 9-1 in five innings.
 
 Saint Vincent moved to 6-10 overall and 0-4 in PAC play, while Geneva improved to 13-5 overall and 2-2 in conference action.
 
Geneva broke through in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five times to take control of the game. Keira Rodu opened the scoring with an RBI single to right center, before Lexi Zanic followed with a three-run double to right center.
 
Justine Robbins then doubled to left center, bringing home another run to give the Golden Tornadoes a 5-0 lead.
 
The Bearcats answered in the top of the third. Eva Farone doubled to begin the inning, and later came around to score on an RBI single to center field by Emily Dudenhoeffer, trimming the deficit to 5-1.
 
Geneva responded immediately in the bottom half of the third, as Molly Shelley launched a three-run homer to left field to extend the lead to 8-1. The Golden Tornadoes added one more run in the fifth when Malerie Branson drew a bases-loaded walk, ending the game with the 9-1 final.
 
Saint Vincent finished with five hits in the loss. Farone went 1-for-3 with a double and scored the Bearcats' lone run, while Dudenhoeffer was 1-for-2 with the team's only RBI. Mackenzie Favero, Alyssa Henderson, and Taylor Williams also added one hit apiece.
 
In the circle, Natalie Bizup took the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits over 1.2 innings. Farone worked the final 2.1 innings, surrendering four runs on three hits.
 
For Geneva, Shelley finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run, while Zanic also drove in three runs. Robbins added two hits and an RBI, and Sophia Tvaroch earned the win after allowing one run on four hits over 4.0 innings.
 
The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, March 28, when they host Allegheny in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
