Softball falls to Westminster at home

LATROBE, Pa. (Mar. 31)- The Saint Vincent softball team dropped a Presidents Athletic Conference doubleheader against Westminster on Tuesday at Saint Vincent.
 
The Bearcats fell in the opener of the doubleheader by a score of 9-0, before losing the finale by a score of 8-3.
 
It was the Bearcats annual cancer research game. Saint Vincent raised money with t-shirts, donating the money to cancer research. This year, the proceeds go to the fight against Lymphoma.
 
Game 1 (5 Inn.)- Westminster 9, Saint Vincent 0
The Saint Vincent softball team fell to Westminster College, 9-0, in five innings Tuesday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Bearcat Ballfield.
 
Westminster improved to 12-5 overall and 7-0 in the PAC, while the Bearcats moved to 8-11 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
 
Westminster scored two runs in the opening inning, added two more in the second and three in the third to build a 7-0 lead. The Titans then added two unearned runs in the fifth to account for the 9-0 final.
 
Saint Vincent finished with four hits in the game. Eva Farone went 1-for-3 with a triple, Mackenzie Favero was 1-for-2, Samantha Farrell doubled and finished 1-for-2, and Taylor Williams added a 1-for-2 effort at the plate.
 
In the circle, Natalie Bizup took the loss for the Bearcats. Saint Vincent committed three errors in the field.
 
Game 2- Westminster 8, Saint Vincent 3
The Saint Vincent softball team dropped game two of Tuesday's Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader to Westminster College, 8-3.
 
Westminster moved to 13-5 overall and 8-0 in PAC play, while the Bearcats fell to 8-12 overall and 2-6 in conference action.
 
After a scoreless opening inning, Westminster took the lead in the second on an RBI single from Ava Karpa. The Titans added three more runs in the third, using a two-run triple by Kylie Anthony and an RBI groundout from Morgan O'Brien to build a 4-0 advantage.
 
Westminster stretched the lead to 7-0 in the fifth when Lily Jordan connected on a three-run homer to right field. Saint Vincent answered in the bottom half of the inning, as Dakota Hershberger singled and Eva Farone walked before Emily Dudenhoeffer drove both runners home with a two-run single to right, trimming the deficit to 7-2.
 
The Titans added one more run in the seventh on a solo home run by Morgan O'Brien, but the Bearcats answered in the bottom of the inning when Hershberger led off with a home run to left center to account for the 8-3 final.
 
Saint Vincent finished with eight hits in the game. Hershberger went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a homer, while Dudenhoeffer finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
 
Farone and Mackenzie Favero each added a hit, and Josey Michalski doubled as part of a 1-for-2 effort. Alyssa Henderson and Remmie Seitz also recorded hits for the Bearcats.
 
In the circle, A.J. Arnal took the loss after allowing seven runs, six earned, over five innings. Mya McHugh worked the final two innings in relief and gave up one run.
 
Saint Vincent returns to action on Thursday, April 2 with another home PAC doubleheader against Washington and Jefferson. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Saint Vincent.
