Bearcats walk off Chatham in 11-Inning thriller to earn doubleheader split

LATROBE, Pa. (Apr. 15)- The Saint Vincent softball team split a home Presidents Athletic Conference doubleheader against Chatham on Wednesday evening at Bearcat Softball Field.
 
The Bearcats dropped the opener by a score of 8-5, before Eva Farone hit a walkoff single in a 3-2 win in 11 innings in game two for the Bearcats.
 
Game 1- Chatham 8, Saint Vincent 5
The Saint Vincent College softball team dropped an 8-5 decision to Chatham University in Presidents' Athletic Conference action Wednesday afternoon at Bearcat Field.
 
With the loss, the Bearcats move to 15-14 overall and 7-8 in PAC play.
 
Chatham struck early in the opening inning, using a grand slam from Hannah Uhrinek to jump out to a 4-0 lead. The Cougars added four more runs in the fourth inning to extend their advantage to 8-3, a lead they would not relinquish.
 
Saint Vincent chipped away offensively, plating one run in the second inning and two in the third to cut the deficit to 4-3. The Bearcats later added a pair of runs in the fifth inning, but were unable to complete the comeback.
 
The Bearcats outhit Chatham 13-8 on the afternoon, led by Josey Michalski, Abby Bauer, and Shayna Perigo, who each recorded three-hit performances. Perigo drove in a team-high three runs, while Bauer and Samantha Farrell each added an RBI.
 
Taylor Williams contributed two hits and scored twice, while Eva Farone also added a hit for Saint Vincent's balanced offensive effort.
 
In the circle, A.J. Arnal took the loss after allowing eight runs on seven hits over four innings of work. Mya McHugh provided three scoreless innings of relief, surrendering just one hit while striking out three.
 
Game 2- Saint Vincent 3, Chatham 2 (11 Innings)
The Saint Vincent College softball team earned a split of Wednesday's Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader against Chatham University, walking off with a 3-2 victory in 11 innings in game two at Bearcat Softball Field.
 
Saint Vincent struck first in the bottom of the first inning, as Abby Bauer singled through the left side to bring home Emily Dudenhoeffer for a 1-0 lead.
 
Chatham answered in the top of the fourth, using RBI doubles from Hannah Uhrinek and Cloe Lopez to move in front 2-1. The Bearcats tied the game in the fifth when Josey Michalski lifted a sacrifice fly to left that scored Dudenhoeffer.
 
The game remained tied through the sixth, seventh, and four extra frames, before Saint Vincent broke through in the bottom of the 11th. Taylor Williams scored the winning run on Eva Farone's RBI single down the right-field line, giving the Bearcats the 3-2 win.
 
Saint Vincent finished with 11 hits in the win. Dudenhoeffer led the way by going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a double, while Alyssa Henderson added two hits. Bauer drove in the Bearcats' first run, Michalski added an RBI on the sacrifice fly, and Farone delivered the game-winning RBI in the 11th.
 
In the circle, Natalie Bizup started and went six innings, allowing two runs on nine hits. Mya McHugh was outstanding in relief, tossing five scoreless innings while giving up just one hit, walking one, and striking out three to earn the win.
 
With the victory, Saint Vincent improved to 16-14 overall and 8-8 in PAC play, while Chatham fell to 12-22 overall and 6-10 in the conference.
 
Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, April 18 with a road PAC doubleheader at Bethany. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Bethany, W.V. on Saturday afternoon.
