WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Apr. 21)- The Saint Vincent softball team split a Presidents Athletic Conference doubleheader at Waynesburg on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bearcats came from behind to win the opener by a score of 7-6, before falling 5-3 in the finale of the doubleheader.

Game 1- Saint Vincent 7, Waynesburg 6
The Saint Vincent College softball team rallied from an early deficit to earn a 7-6 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Waynesburg University in game one of Tuesday's doubleheader.

The Bearcats improved to 18-15 overall and 10-9 in PAC play with the win.

Waynesburg struck quickly with three runs in the bottom of the first, getting a solo home run from Rylee Rohbeck, an RBI single from Braylee Corbin and an unearned run on a Saint Vincent throwing error to take a 3-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets added another unearned run in the second to move in front 4-1.

Saint Vincent began to chip away in the second inning, when
Taylor Williams scored on
Shayna Perigo's RBI double.

The Bearcats added two more in the third, as
Josey Michalski doubled home
Alyssa Henderson, who advanced on a Waynesburg error, before
Abby Bauer followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 4-3.

The Bearcats then broke through with a four-run sixth inning to take control. Williams opened the frame with a single, and after
Samantha Farrell's sacrifice bunt, Perigo singled up the middle.
Mackenzie Favero tied the game with an RBI single,
Emily Dudenhoeffer followed with an RBI single to give Saint Vincent the lead, Henderson added another RBI single, and
Eva Farone later scored on a wild pitch for a 7-4 advantage.

Waynesburg answered with one run in the bottom of the sixth on an error and added another in the seventh on Corbin's RBI groundout, but Saint Vincent held on for the 7-6 win.

The Bearcats totaled 14 hits in the victory. Henderson, Michalski, Farrell, Perigo and Favero each recorded two hits, while Dudenhoeffer, Bauer and Perigo each drove in a run. Williams scored twice, and Farone reached base three times with a hit and two walks.

In the circle,
Natalie Bizup earned the complete-game win, allowing six runs, four earned, on 10 hits while striking out one. Saint Vincent also turned two double plays defensively.

Game 2- Waynesburg 5, Saint Vincent 3

With the split, the Bearcats moved to 18-16 overall, while Waynesburg improved to 25-11.

Waynesburg struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Meysa Heitmann tripled to center to drive in Jamie Kelly, and Tori Foust followed with an RBI single to right to make it 2-0.

The Yellow Jackets added another run in the third when Rylee Rohbeck scored on a wild pitch, then pushed the lead to 4-1 in the fourth on Braylee Corbin's solo home run to left. Brynn Charnesky later scored on a sacrifice fly by Rohbeck in the fifth to give Waynesburg a 5-1 advantage.

Saint Vincent got on the board in the top of the fourth.
Abby Bauer opened the inning with a double, and with the bases loaded later in the frame,
Mackenzie Favero drew an RBI walk to bring the Bearcats within 3-1. Saint Vincent added two more runs in the sixth, when
Emily Dudenhoeffer singled to right center to score
Macie McHugh, and
Alyssa Henderson followed with an RBI fielder's choice that brought home Favero to cut the deficit to 5-3.

The Bearcats finished with nine hits in the loss.
Eva Farone,
Emily Dudenhoeffer and
Josey Michalski each had two hits, while Bauer doubled and scored a run.
Macie McHugh went 1-for-2, scored once and drew two walks, while Favero drove in a run and reached base three times on walks.

Mya McHugh took the loss after pitching all six innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with one walk. Saint Vincent turned one double play defensively, but Waynesburg pitcher Morgan Walt earned the win to improve to 8-0.

Saint Vincent returns to action on Saturday, April 25, hosting Grove City in the Bearcats PAC regular season finale doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday with major playoff implications on the line in Latrobe.
