BELLE VERNON, Pa. (Sept. 5)- The Saint Vincent women's golf team opened up their 2026-27 season with a strong showing at the two-day NCAA Division II California University (Pa.) Invitational at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon.

The Bearcats were scheduled to play 54 holes in the tournament, but the damaging storms that ripped through western Pennsylvania on Thursday evening shortened the tournament to 36 holes. Despite the poor weather and heat, the Bearcats battled and placed 12th out of 18 teams, all of which are a part of NCAA Division II.

Freshman Rylee Gage was impressive in his first collegiate tournament. Gage recorded rounds of 88 and 87 to finish t-45th in the over 90 golfer field. The freshman was consistent over the entirety of the 36 holes as she recorded 13 pars en route to being the Bearcats top finisher at the tournament.

The young Bearcats team continued to show fight as freshman Madalyn Pevarnik finished behind Gage (63rd) with rounds of 96 and 94. Pevarnik totaled 9 pars over the course of the 36 hole tournament. 

Myla Burchill finished just behind Pevarnik, carding rounds of 94 and 99. She recorded a birdie and five pars in the opening round before recording three more pars in round two.

Elizabeth DeLo and Hailey Uhrinek rounded out the Bearcats scoring for the tournament. DeLo shot a 95 and 103 with seven pars, while Uhrinek recorded three pars over the course of her first 36 collegiate holes.

The Bearcats return to action on Saturday, September 12, as they travel to Thiel to compete at the Thiel College Invitational at Avalon at Buhl Park in Sharon, Pa. Tee times for the tournament begin at 1 p.m.
