Coach Coleman joined the Saint Vincent football staff in April of 2018.
Coleman most recently served as an Assistant Football Coach with Division I Robert Morris University, where he served as the defensive line coach. Coleman was an assistant for the Colonials for the past four seasons.
During his time at RMU, Coleman assisted with daily operations, game and practice breakdowns, practice scripts and scouting reports. In 2017, he mentored All-Conference football player, Amir Fenwick. In 2016, Coleman mentored Ryan Lewis to All-Conference accolades. During that season he coached a defensive unit that ranked nationally in four Top-25 statistical categories: Red Zone Defense (11th), Fumbles Recovered (14th), Sacks (16th), and Third Down Percentage (17th). During the 2015 season, mentored All-Conference performer Forrest Mason. Coached a defensive front that tied the RMU single-season record for sacks (34), and tied the second-highest figure in programs history for tackles for loss with 85. In his first season with the program in 2014, he mentored All-Conference performer Forrest Mason. He also coached a defensive front that finished among the top 25 nationally in tackles for loss. During his tenure at RMU, he also served as the Athletic Academic Advisor for the entire athletic department.
In the 2017-2018 season, Coleman served as an NFL intern coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Coleman received an invitation to join the Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff through the NFL Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship. This particular fellowship allowed Coleman the opportunity to join the staff for the duration of preseason camp, while also providing him the opportunity to coach in preseason games. The Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship is in its 30th season of helping outstanding coaches gain exposure to NFL training camps and offseason workout programs. The program's objective is to use NFL clubs' training camps, offseason workout programs and minicamps to give talented coaches opportunities to observe, participate, gain experience and ultimately gain a full-time NFL coaching position. While assisting with the defensive line, Coleman was also able to help with day-to-day team operations, game and practice breakdowns, practice scripts and scouting reports.
Coleman’s collegiate coaching career began at another Division III institution, Averett University in Virginia. While with the Cougars, Coleman served various roles within the program, which included assistant head football coach, defensive line coach, linebacker’s coach, recruiting coordinator, video coordinator, and strength and conditioning coach. Coleman was a member of the Averett staff from 2007-2013. During that time he mentored 14 All-Conference Players, six All-Region Players, two All-Americans, and two Players of the Year in the USA South Conference.
Coleman has also served on the American Football Coaches Association Minority Committee, participated in the NFL-NCAA Future Head Coaches Summit in 2012 and 2015 and authored articles that have appeared in various coaching magazines.
Coleman is also no stranger to the Presidents’ Athletic Conference, as he earned his undergraduate degree in Communication from Waynesburg University in 1999. A four-year starter for the Yellow Jackets, Coleman helped guide Waynesburg to the 1998 PAC Championship Title. As a senior, he was recognized as a First Team All-PAC selection and Honorable Mention All-American. Upon graduation, Coleman played in the Arena Football League before going back to earned his Master of Business Administration: Business Management from Waynesburg University in 2003. He also has a Master of Science: Sport Management from Robert Morris University (2006) and a Doctorate of Education: Educational Leadership from Argosy University (2014).
