Terron Colson joined the Bearcat coaching staff prior to the 2023 season as linebackers coach and academic coordinator, while adding the role of special teams coordinator for the 2024 campaign.Â
Under Colson's guidance in the 2023 season, linebackers Wiley Purry and Nathan Sullivan earned prestigious All-Presidents' Athletic Conference accolades. Purry's outstanding performance led the PAC in tackles with 111, setting a school record for most tackles in a season. Additionally, he ranked fourth in school history for most tackles in a single game with 16 tackles against Bethany on November 11, 2023. Meanwhile, Nathan Sullivan achieved a personal best with 63 tackles, securing the 15th spot in the PAC in tackles.
Colson brings a wealth of high school coaching experience from Florida, most recently serving as head coach at Somerset Academy South Homestead Charter High School during the 2022 season. Prior to this, during the 2021 season, he served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Somerset Academy Silver Palms Charter, following a successful stint in the same role at South Miami Senior High School in 2020. His leadership was instrumental in South Miami's defense, which allowed only 173 yards and 13.7 points per game.
From 2018 to 2019, Colson excelled as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Somerset Academy Silver Palms, guiding the 2019 team to lead its conference in scoring defense and rank third in total defense.
Colson's coaching journey began at Miami Southridge High School, where he served as the head JV coach and varsity linebackers coach from 2014 to 2017. Notably, the 2016 team achieved district victory and secured the Florida Class 8A State Championship.
In addition to his coaching endeavors, Colson has contributed to education as a world history teacher at Somerset Academy South Homestead and Somerset Academy Silver Palms. Moreover, he founded Lightwork Promoting & Recruiting LLC, a college recruiting service based in South Florida.
A Miami native, Colson earned his bachelor's degree in history/secondary education from Grand Canyon University and completed his master's degree in higher education in student affairs in 2023. Recognized as an All-Dade County high school football honoree in 2005, Colson played collegiate football at Virginia Union University and Florida International University.
Terron Colson currently resides in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, with his wife Lehua Colson, and their children, Kaleo Baxter, Terron Colson Jr., Po’okela Colson.
