Rich Gockel joined the SVC women's bowling staff for the 2018-19 season as an assistant coach, bringing decades of coaching experience to the team. He moved to the men's bowling program in 2021, then took over as head coach for the men's team in the fall of 2022.
Previously, he served as the assistant coach at nearby Greensburg Central Catholic HS for 16 years, from 1998-2014. During his time, the Centurions won two WPIBL Section titles.
He then took over as head coach at Hempfield Area HS, guiding the Spartans for four seasons. His teams earned four section titles combined, along 3 Western PA Regional titles and one state runner-up finish.
Rich also coached in the Junior program at Hillview Lanes for 15 years.
He is a lifetime 210 average bowler with 7 sanctioned 300 games and one 800 series.
