Biography
2024-25: Named 2024-25 National Rookie of the Year by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association. Named 2024-25 NCAA Division III National Rookie of the Year by the National Tenpin Coaches Association. Led the Bearcats with a 191.3 average, with strikes on 40.7% of her throws. Was one of the nation's leaders in spare shooting, with 84.9% makeable spares and a 90.7% conversion rate on single-pin spares. Earned All-AMCC honors, and posted an average of 207.5 in the AMCC Championships. Named AMCC Player of the Week (week ending 10/20) after posting a 210.6 overall average in an Ohio Bowling Conference event. Averaged 224 in Bakers and 204 in Traditional games for the day, and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Threw strikes on 50% of her throws for the tournament (26-for-52) and made 22 of 23 makeable spares. Led the team in scoring at the Grapevine Classic (Oct 12-13) with an average of 192.4. Averaged 239.2 in the Championships rounds of the Collegiate Shoot-Out Tier 1 event in Las Vegas (Dec 21). Earned All-Tournament Team honors at the Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic with a 202 average, and was named AMCC Player of the Week for the week ending January 12 after finishing the weekend with a 191.7 average in the GPCC and Western PA Baker Shootout.
HIGH SCHOOL: Two-time WPIBL high school league MVP (2023, 2024), winning the title in 2023 with a 217 average, and in 2024 with a 213 mark. Both seasons, she recorded the highest individual series in the league, 730 as a junior and 748 as a senior. She was named All-WPIBL First Team all four seasons, was a 3-time Section MVP, was the 2022 Western Regional Singles Champion, and qualified for WPIBLs, Regionals, and States all 4 seasons. She was also the MVP of the 2024 Bearcat Challenge and finished third among individuals in the US National High School Bowling Championships in 2024. Has a career high game of 299 and a high series of 752.
PERSONAL: The daughter of Brian and Monica Pilyih, Mara joins her cousin Lexi on the SVC team, and is majoring in Sports Management.
