SVC swimming goes 5-0 in quad meet


The Saint Vincent College men's and women's swimming teams combined to go a perfect 5-0 in a quad meet hosted by Chatham University.

The Lady Bearcats were victorious against Chatham, Penn State-Altoona, and Bethany, while the Bearcat men went 2-0 against Bethany and PSU-Altoona.

The Lady Bearcats combined for eight individual victories, and were led by the trio of Katie Custer, Carolyn Claybrooks, and Christine Dunleavy.

Custer picked up wins in the 100 Fly, with a time of 1:03.32, the 50 Free (25.48), and the 100 Free (56.03).  Claybrooks was victorious in the 1,650 Free, in a Chatham pool record time of 19:26.72, before also taking first in the 500 Free (5:37.22).  Dunleavy also picked up two wins, including the 100 and 200 Breaststrokes.

In relay action, the foursome of Custer, Claybrooks, Jess Kennedy, and Maggie Dempsey took first in the 200 Free, with a time of 1:43.24.

Second-place finishers for the Lady Bearcats included Kelsey Linstrum in the 1650 Free, Meredith Brown in the 200 Fly, Dempsey in the 50 Free, and Mary Kate Kenna in the 400 Individual Medley.  The relay team of Brown, Dempsey, Dunleavy, and Sarah Denning also turned in a second-place finish, timed in 2:02.10.

In the men's meet, Saint Vincent posted wins in eight of nine non-exhibition individual events.

Multiple winners for the Bearcats included Sam Cline, who took the 1650 Free (18:17.10) and 400 Individual Medley (4:45.56) and Tom Nielsen, who won the 200 Free (1:54.99) and 200 Back (2:11.83).

Other first-place finishes for the SVC men included Matt Linebaugh in the 200 Fly (2:19.76), Troy Linebaugh the 50 Free (23.33), Logan Dorminey the 100 Free (51.20), and Dan Kostovny the 200 Breast (2:24.23).  The Bearcat 200 Medley Relay foursome of Nielsen, Kostovny, Matt Linebaugh, and Casey Whittaker was also victorious, posting a time of 1:45.25.

The Bearcat men also posted a number of second-place finishes.  Zack Krejdovsky took second in the 200 Free, Michael Gruss the 200 Fly, Whittaker the 100 Breast, Kreighton Long the 1650 Free, and Thomas the 100 Free.

Both SVC swimming teams will return to action this Friday evening, hosting Wheeling Jesuit in non-conference action beginning at 6pm in the Resnik Pool.
