YORK, Pa. (Oct. 31) – The Saint Vincent College women's swimming team put together a strong showing at the two-day York College Invitational, held Friday, Oct. 30, and Saturday, Oct. 31.
The Bearcats recorded multiple individual and relay victories throughout the two-day, non-scoring meet, highlighted by strong performances from Teresa Grimm, Adrianna Grimm, Allison Hegwood and Emi Carpeal.
Teresa Grimm led the way for Saint Vincent on Friday, capturing first-place finishes in both the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard breaststroke. She opened the meet by winning the 200 IM in 2:19.65 before touching the wall first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:11.75.
Saint Vincent swept the top two spots in both events, as Fallyn Zembiec finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:24.01, while Valerie Clabaugh placed second in the 100 breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:11.97.
Adrianna Grimm added another individual victory for the Bearcats on Friday, winning the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.06 seconds. Hegwood finished just behind her in second place, touching the wall in 25.18 seconds, while Lauren Kelley placed fourth in 25.82 seconds.
Hegwood continued her strong weekend on Saturday, winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.82. Zembiec added a third-place finish in the event, clocking a time of 2:06.22.
Kelley also earned an individual victory on Saturday, winning the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.27, edging York's Annika Doutrich, who finished second in 1:01.36.
Carpeal highlighted Saint Vincent's distance performances, capturing first place in the 1,650-yard freestyle on Saturday with a time of 18:46.07. She also placed second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:00.12 and finished third in Friday's 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 5:33.64.
The Bearcats were equally impressive in relay competition, opening Friday's action with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Hegwood, Ava Sutter, Cc Hickin and Adrianna Grimm combined for a first-place time of 1:41.31. Saint Vincent's second relay team of Teresa Grimm, Sophia Montvydas, Kelley and Zembiec finished second in 1:43.28.
On Saturday, the Bearcats added another relay victory in the 200-yard medley relay, as Adrianna Grimm, Teresa Grimm, Kelley and Hegwood combined for a winning time of 1:53.11.
Saint Vincent closed out the meet with another first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Hegwood, Hickin, Kelley and Adrianna Grimm touched the wall in 3:46.20, ahead of York's second-place time of 3:49.52.
Other notable performances included Teresa Grimm's runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:40.24) on Saturday, along with Adrianna Grimm's second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:03.12).
The two-day invitational was a non-scoring event, with no team scores recorded.
The Bearcats return to action on Friday, November 6 with a home PAC meet against Grove City. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
