Bearcats fall to Mt. Union, top W&J

GREENSBURG, Pa. (Oct. 1) - The Saint Vincent women's tennis team split a pair of matches to move its record to 11-3, dropping a 6-3 non-conference match against Mount Union before earning a 9-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory against Washington & Jefferson.

Against Mount Union, the guests held a 2-1 edge after doubles competition. At first doubles, SVC's Alexis Cup and Amanda Gans earned an 8-6 win against Krissy Hallett and Taylor Dowling. Second and third doubles were also decided by an 8-6 margin, with Mount Union's Megan Czuchra and Courtney Adamsky topping Jessica McKetta and Jessa Paruch while Hanna Arvidson and Amanda Wise defeated the Bearcats' Stephanie Rubin and Emily Morris.

In singles, Hallet defeated Cup at the first position, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. Gans registered a straight-sets victory, 6-1, 6-2, over Wise at the second position before Mount Union won the third, fourth and fifth singles. Czuchra topped Rubin, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, Arvidson defeated Morris, 6-1, 6-4, and Adamsky beat McKetta, 6-4, 6-4. Paruch swept Dowling at the sixth position to round out singles play.

SVC then swept W&J, 9-0, only dropping five sets in the entire match. Cup and Gans swept Kathryn Mioduszewski and Lina Echeverri, 8-0 at first doubles, while Morris and Rubin earned a sweep over Alexis Ferrari and Teuta Konjuhi, 8-0, at third doubles. In the second position, Morgan Dolinar and Paruch topped Carrie Campbell and Danielle Uffola, 8-2.

The Bearcats blanked the Presidents in the first three singles matches as Cup won, 6-0, 6-0, over Mioduszewski at the first position, while Gans blanked Echeverri at the second position and Dolinar swept Campbell at the third position. At fourth singles, Rubin topped Uffola, 6-0, 6-2. The match was rounded out by Morris posting a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ferrari at fifth singles, while McKetta blanked Alicia Toldero, 6-0, 6-0 at the six spot.

The Bearcats return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they travel to NCAA Division II Clarion for a 4 p.m. match.
