Swimmers split with Penn State-Behrend



FULL RESULTS

ERIE, Pa. (Nov. 19) - For the second week in a row, the Saint Vincent women's swimming team posted a 156-110 win while the Bearcat men's swimming team suffered a 180-93 defeat, as SVC visited Penn State-Behrend.

The women had a dominating afternoon in the pool placing first in nearly each event. In the 200 backstroke, freshman Jess Smrekar broke the school record with a time of 2 minutes, 20.66 seconds. Sophomore Alyssa Taylor broke her own school record in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 2:17.72.

Freshman Molly McCloskey captured first place in the 1000 free with a time of 11:35.11, six seconds ahead of second-place finisher sophomore Carolyn Claybrooks, who registered a win in the 500 free in 5:41.66.

The Bearcats kicked off the day with a win in the 200 medley relay as the team of Smrekar, senior Christine Dunleavy and freshmen Sarah Robbins and Alexis Ferraco won by nearly two seconds in 1:55.58.

In the men's race, freshman Joe Woodman claimed first-places finishes in both the 200 and 500 free with times of 1:51.36 and 5:07.53, respectively. Junior Logan Dorminey earned a first in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:14.11.

To close out the afternoon, the 400 free relay consisting of sophomore Matt Linebaugh, freshman Zach Ligus, Dorminey and Woodman, won by 18 seconds with a time of 3:25.33.

SVC is idle next weekend before returning to the pool in Fredonia, N.Y. at the Blue Devil Invitational, hosted by the State University of New York, Fredonia.
