FULL RESULTS
The Saint Vincent swimming teams wrapped up the 2010-11 regular season with a split against visiting Fairmont State University, as the Lady Bearcats defeated the Falcons 142-69, while the FSU men were victorious 157-90.
With the non-conference victory, the Lady Bearcats wrap up the regular season with a 7-6 overall record, while the SVC men finish 4-8.
In the women's event, the Lady Bearcats were victorious in 10 of the day's 14 races, and received a balanced effort individually, as the eight wins in individual events were captured by five swimmers.
Christine Dunleavy, Katie Custer, and Jess Kennedy were all multiple winners on the day for Saint Vincent. Dunleavy took individual wins in the 200 Breaststroke (2:38.39) and 100 Breaststroke (1:10.37), Custer the 100 Freestyle (56.10) and 200 Freestyle (2:06.90), and Kennedy the 200 Backstroke (2:27.96) and 200 Butterfly (2:33.51).
The aforementioned trio also teamed up with Maggie Dempsey to take first in the 200 Medley Relay, with a time of 1:57.23.
Carolyn Claybrooks took first in the 1000 Freestyle, timed in 11:33.17, Kelsey Linstrum won the 500 Freestyle (5:45.50), and Mary Kate Kanna took the 200 Individual Medley, with a time of 2:27.53.
The SVC women also boasted a number of second place finishes. Jayna Cline finished second in both the 1000 and 500 Freestyle, Linstrum the 200 Freestyle, Sarah Denning the 100 Backstroke, Dempsey the 50 Freestyle, Merdith Brown the 100 Freestyle and 200 Individual Medley, and Amanda Haile the 200 Butterfly.
For the Bearcat men,
Casey Whittaker turned in a pair of individual victories, taking the 200 Butterfly (2:08.67) and the 200 Individual Medley (2:08.20). Saint Vincent received a third first place finish from
Dan Kostovny, who captured the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:25.01.
The Saint Vincent men also received five second-place finishes on the afternoon, as Kostovny touched second in the 100 Breaststroke,
Troy Linebaugh the 50 Freestyle,
Kreighton Long the 1000 Freestyle,
Adam Thomas the 200 Backstroke, and
Sam Cline the 200 Individual Medley. The Bearcats' 400 Freestyle Relay team of Thomas,
Matt Linebaugh, Tom Nielsen, and
Logan Dorminey also finished second, with a time of 3:28.95.
Prior to the start of the meet, the Bearcats' five seniors, including Denning, Haile,
Zack Krejdovsky,
Adam Hodnichak, and
Troy Linebaugh, were recognized for their four years in the pool for Saint Vincent.
The Bearcats will now have a two-week respite before wrapping up the season with the three-day Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Grove City College, beginning on Feb. 17th.
