Swimmers fall to Westminster on Senior Day

LATROBE, Pa. (Jan. 28) - The Saint Vincent swimming teams were swept by perennial Presidents' Athletic Conference powerhouse Westminster on Senior Day at the Resnik Pool.

The men Bearcats were downed by the Titans, 157-103, and the Bearcat women's team fell, 154-108.

Freshman Zach Ligus had a great day for SVC, breaking the a school record and setting two other pool records.

In the 200 butterfly, Ligus set the school- and pool-mark with a time of 2:00.97. In the 100 freestyle event, he broke the Resnik Pool record with a time of 48.84, a mark he would later re-break leading off the 400 freestyle relay.

The women's 200 medley relay started the afternoon with a win as the team of Jess Smrekar, Christine Dunleavy, Alyssa Taylor and Katie Custer touched the wall in 1:53.33 to win by .22 seconds.

Custer won the women's 50 freestyle by almost 1.5 seconds, sprinting to a time of 24.87. She also captured the 100 freestyle over teammate Sarah Robbins by .19 seconds with a time of 56.01.

The Bearcats will have their final tune-up before the PAC Championships when they travel to NCAA Division II Fairmont State (W.Va.) on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.
