For the first time since joining the Presidents' Athletic Conference, the Saint Vincent women's tennis team defeated Grove City College, the perennial conference champions, by a score of 6-3. With the win, Saint Vincent is now 10-0 on the season.
SVC dropped two of three doubles matches to start the day, with the lone win earned by
Jessica McKetta and
Kylie Auman (8-1) in the #3 position.
Stephanie Rubin and Jacquelyn Hauser, playing #2 doubles, had to go to a tiebreaker, but lost 7-2 in extra play for a 9-8 final decision.
The Bearcats then rebounded to win five of six singles matches in order to secure the win on the day. At #1,
Amanda Gans lost the first set, 7-5, before coming back to win the second set 6-2. In the tiebreaker, Gans was a 10-4 victor.
Shayla Landman improved to 10-0 in her singles career at SVC, winning her #2 match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
In the #3 spot, Rubin suffered her first loss of the season, while Hauser won a walkover in the #4 position.
McKetta was a straight set winner at #5 singles, while Auman improved to 8-0 in singles play with a straight set win at #6. Auman is also undefeated (7-0) in doubles, teamed with McKetta.
Saint Vincent will host two more PAC matches at home this week. Next up will be Bethany College on Thursday at 3:30PM.
