SVC swimmers stay close with Mount Union but fall short



FULL RESULTS

LATROBE (Nov. 16) - The Saint Vincent men's and women's swimming teams kept the meets close, but neither was able to post a victory as visiting Mount Union (Ohio) swept the non-conference dual meet at the Resnik Pool.

The Bearcat women dropped their meet, 113-92, while the men fell, 111-92, to drop both SVC teams to 2-2 on the season.

SVC won the first three events as the Bearcats swept the 200 medley relay and posted a win in the women's 1650 freestyle.

The women's 200 medley relay of Jess Smrekar, Mary Kate Kenna, Alyssa Taylor and Katie Custer won an exciting race by .21 of a second. The men's relay of Casey Whittaker, Andy Moog, Zach Ligus and Allen Sant also won a closely contested race by .24 with a time of 1:42.38.

In the 1650, Molly McCloskey won by more than 20 seconds with a time of 18:58.63. Taylor then followed it up with a victory in the women's 200 freestyle, touching the wall in 2:02.26, before Matt Linebaugh made it an SVC sweep in the 200 freestyle with a .27 win in 1:48.53.


Whittaker sprinted to a victory in the men's 50 freestyle, with a 22.60, and Henry Signore won the 400 individual medley by six seconds with a time of 4:31.34.

Taylor won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:18.43, while Ligus won the men's version with a time of 2:02.13.

In the 100 free, Linebaugh was nearly one second better than the field with a time of 49.69.

The men's 200 breaststroke was won by Moog, who was five seconds ahead of the next finisher with a time of 2:21.47.

In the women's 200 freestyle relay, Alexis Ferraco, Allison Friery, Paige Pecora and Katie Custer won by .16 with a time of 1:41.31 to post the last win of the day for SVC.

The Bearcats are idle until they make their annual trip to the Blue Devil Invitational, hosted by Fredonia State (N.Y.)
