19th-ranked St Mary's College defeats Bearcats

The Bearcats lost to 19th-ranked St Mary's College of Maryland, 78-70, in the Championship of the Carnegie Mellon Tournament.

JC Howard had the hot hand for the Bearcats in the early going, scoring the team's first five points, but the Seahawks held the lead throughout the first ten minutes.  A bucket by Grant Latus with 9:45 remaining gave SVC its first lead, 20-19.  A baseline jumper by Dillon Stith then increased the lead to three, but St Mary's then went on a 5-0 run to retake the lead.

With 4:30 left in the half, the Seahawks opened the lead to five, 31-26, but free throws from Howard and a basket by Armani Fountain off an Edmond Wright II pass kept SVC close.

In the final minute, St Mary's once again ran the lead to six, 37-31, but Sean Kett added four points at the end of the half to make it a 37-35 game at the break.

The second half belonged to the Seahawks, as the opened a 10-point lead in the first seven minutes.  A pair of three-pointers by Isaac Turner cut the gap to four, 69-65, with 2:56 remaining, but the Bearcats could get no closer.

Klimchock led Saint Vincent with 14 points, while Stith added 13.  Both Klimchock and Stith were named to the All-Tournament Team. 

Kett added a career-high 12 points, while Turner had 10.  Latus had 7 rebounds on the day, while Fountain added six. Klimchock tallied 7 assists on the day.

Devin Spencer led the Seahawks with 17 points, while Donn Hill had 14 points and 10 boards.

Saint Vincent is now 3-2 on the season, and will return home to host Penn State-Fayette on Thursday night at 7PM in the Carey Center.
