SVC splits with Division II Fairmont State

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (Feb. 4) - The Saint Vincent swimming teams split with NCAA Division II Fairmont State as the women won, 138.5-111.5, and the men lost, 145-100.

SVC began the meet with the women's 200 medley relay of Jess Smrekar, Christine Dunleavy, Alyssa Taylor and Sarah Robbins posting the win with a time of 1:56.26.

Taylor later posted the win in the 200 butterfly by nearly 13 seconds with a time of 2:18.94. Katie Custer sprinted to a win in the 100 freestyle, touching the wall in 55.56.

In the 200 backstroke, Smrekar posted a win by nearly three seconds with a time of 2:23.70. The Bearcats closed out the meet as the team of Robbins, Alexis Ferraco, Paige Pecora and Custer won the 200 freestyle relay by less than one second with a time of 1:43.01.

In the men's race, Adam Thomas finished in second place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.04. In the 50 freestyle, Matt Linebaugh finished .09 of a second behind the winner with a time of 23.04 to place second.

The Bearcats had the top two finishers in the 200 breaststroke as Andy Moog touched the wall .18 ahead of teammate Dan Kostovny. The two swimmers posted times fo 2:25.33 and 2:25.51, respectively.

Saint Vincent is now off for two weeks as they prepare for the Presidents' Athletic Conference championships which will take place at Grove City from Feb. 16-18.
