A thrilling 1-2 finish by Saint Vincent in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay gave the Bearcats a one-point win, 147-146, over Washington & Jefferson College in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Resnik Pool.

SVC entered the final event with only one hope of winning the meet, taking the top two spots.  Each school entered three teams in the relay.  The SVC "A" team of Katie Custer, Sarah Robbins, Alexis Ferraco and Paige Pecora earned 11 points by reaching the finish first in 3:45.87.

The Saint Vincent "B" team of Allison Friery, Caitlin Dempsey, Kelsey Linstrum and Molly McCloskey then took second place in 3:55.42, just 1.19 seconds ahead of the Washington & Jefferson "A" team, securing 4 points and the meet victory.

Saint Vincent entered the evening at a huge deficit.  A problem with the diving board resulted in the cancelation of the 1-meter diving event.  By PAC rule, W&J was thereby awarded all points for first, second and third in each of two events.  Therefore, the SVC women trailed by a score of 32-0 before the first swimmer reached the water on the night.

Individually,  Jess Smrekar earned a pair of victories, taking first in the 100 and 200 Backstroke.  Alyssa Taylor was a two-time winner in the 100 and 200 Fly, while Custer won the 50 Free and McCloskey was a winner in the 1000 Free.

SVC also won the 200 Medley Relay, as the team of Smrekar, Mary Kate Kenna, Taylor and Custer took top honors.
