FULL RESULTS
LATROBE (Nov. 2) - Needing to take the top two places heading into the final event, the Saint Vincent women's swimming team posted second- and third-place finishes to fall, 139-123, to Grove City in the Presidents' Athletic Conference opener for both squads.
Despite the loss, the Bearcats still had a successful showing on the afternoon at the Resnik Pool.
SVC opened the afternoon with a 200 medley relay win as
Jess Smrekar,
Molly Ruffner,
Alyssa Taylor and
Marissa Frollo posted a time of 1:57.41.
Frollo showed her sprinting skills in the 50 free, posting a three-tenths of a second win with a time of 25.29. She was also a part of the Bearcats sweep of the top three spots in the 100 freestyle finishing in 57.02 behind
Paige Pecora and
Sarah Robbins who finished .03 apart in 56.07 and 56.10, respectively.
Smrekar and Taylor later posted individual wins as Smrekar captured the 200 backstroke victory in 2:21.60, while Taylor won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.86, less than a second ahead of Robbins' time of 1:02.73.
The Bearcats are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 9 with a quad meet at York (Pa.) with Dickinson and St. Mary's (Pa.).
