Swimming posts sweep at PSU-Behrend

ERIE, Pa. (Feb. 1) - The Saint Vincent swimming teams posted a pair of wins in the final dual meet of the season, defeating Penn State Behrend on the road in non-conference action.

The Bearcat women won 142-81 to improve to 6-5 this season and the men were victorious by a score of 158-104, improving to 5-5 in the process.

The Bearcats combined to win 24 of 28 total events on the day, including some that were scored as exhibitions. Each 200 medley relay was victorious as the women's team of Jess Smrekar, Kristina Boburka, Marissa Frollo and Paige Pecora were timed at 1:58.27 to win by four-plus seconds. The men squeaked by Behrend by .02, as Adam Tran, Andy Moog, Xander Emili and Matt Linebaugh completed the event in 1:40.79.

Multiple time winners for the women were Molly McCloskey (1000 freestyle and 100 backstroke), Sarah Robbins (100 and 200 freestyle), and Alyssa Taylor (100 and 200 butterfly).

For the men, Zach Ligus led the way with three wins (100 and 200 butterfly and the 100 freestyle). Matt Crum earned a pair of distance wins in the 500 and 1000 freestyle and Linebaugh won a couple of shorter freestyle events, the 50 and 200. Moog also won a pair of individual events, capturing first in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

SVC will be idle for nearly two weeks before competing in the Presidents' Athletic Conference championships at Grove City on Feb. 13-15.
