LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 13) - The Saint Vincent men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss in overtime to Bethany College in Presidents' Athletic Conference play.
Both teams played through a relatively uneventful first half, with the two teams combining for just 10 shots. However, things opened up right away in the second half.
SVC got on the scoreboard first when junior
Zachary Kocak scored off a long throw in from junior
Kevin Proctor in the 47th minute of play, giving SVC a 1-0 lead.
The Bearcats wasted little time adding on to that lead, as senior
Christian Trueax tallied his third goal of the season. The goal came off a long pass from
Chris Page in the 53rd minute of play, giving the Bearcats a 2-0 lead.
Momentum really seemed to swing in favor of the Bison shortly thereafter as they would score a goal off a penalty kick in the 64th minute, closing their deficit to 2-1.
In the 68th minute, Jack Waters would score his second goal of the contest for the Bison, tying the score at 2-2.
The score remained tied and headed to overtime. In the first overtime session, Bethany would gain victory on a goal from Jay O'Donnell in the 93rd minute after a failed clear attempt by SVC. Waters had a hand in this goal as well, chipping the ball in for the assist.
Bethany held an 18-17 advantage in shots overall, while they held a slight 8-6 edge in shots on goal. Saint Vincent held a 6-3 margin in corner kicks over Bethany.
Senior goalkeeper
Jon White made five saves in the loss for the Bearcats.
SVC falls to 1-12-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the PAC for the season. Meanwhile, Bethany improved to 5-7-2 overall and now sits at 1-1-1 in the league.
The Bearcats return to action at Grove City on Saturday, Oct. 17. Start time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
