LATROBE, Pa. (Oct. 14) - Maggie Nelson registered her first career hat trick as the Saint Vincent women's soccer team beat Bethany 6-0 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.

The victory improves the Bearcats to 2-2 in the PAC and 6-7 overall. The win was the fourth in five tries for SVC at home in 2015.

Saint Vincent wasted little time in establishing themselves offensively, as senior Emily Johns scored off an assist from Nelson in the 14th minute of action, giving the Bearcats a 1-0 advantage.

Nelson tallied an unassisted score in the 16th minute to push the lead to 2-0. The score remained that way for the remainder of the first half.

After halftime ended the Bearcats got back to work. Nelson added another goal when she scored off an assist from sophomore Lauren Czerwien in the 51st minute, making it 3-0 Bearcats.

Johns then scored her second goal of the day, this time an unassisted tally, in the 55th minute of play for a 4-0 lead.

Sophomore Alexandra Piampiano assisted Nelson's third score, as Nelson blasted the ball past the goalie, who came out of the net to attempt to play the ball. The third goal of the day by Nelson made it 5-0 SVC.

Freshman Calsey Holshue closed out the scoring, knocking one home off an assist from freshman Kennedy Ains in the 86th minute. The Holshue goal closed out the scoring and gave SVC its second highest goal total in a game for the season.

Saint Vincent held a sizeable shot advantage for the afternoon, outshooting the Bison 28-5. SVC held a 14-3 edge on shots on goal.

Freshman Corinne Burk got the start in net, making three saves over 45 minutes of action. Junior Meghan Lyden played the final 45 minutes in goal for the Bearcats.

SVC travels to Grove City on Saturday, Oct. 17. Start time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
