The SVC women's soccer team picked up its first victory in Presidents' Athletic Conference play, cruising to a 5-0 decision over Thiel College on the Bearcat turf.
The win improves Saint Vincent to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the PAC. Meanwhile, Thiel drops to 0-9-1 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Senior
Emily Johns got the Bearcats on the board first when she scored an unassisted goal in the 15th minute of play, making it 1-0. The goal was Johns' third of the season.
Freshman
Calsey Holshue scored off long strike from 30 yards out in the 32nd minute to make it 2-0 Bearcats. Holshue scored off assists from freshman
Natalie Luppold and senior
Meghan Smith.
Holshue added her third goal of the season, when she scored in the 39th minute of play. Freshman
Leah Scott added the assist as the Bearcats took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
SVC continued to find its groove offensively in the second half, as sophomore
Maggie Nelson scored her fifth of the season, off an assist from Johns in the 55th minute.
Smith closed out the scoring when she knocked a shot into the net off a rebound in the 63rd minute of play, pushing the lead to 5-0.
Freshman goalie
Corinne Burk totaled eight saves in her third shutout of the season.
SVC returns to action at Westminster College on Saturday, Oct. 10.
