BOX SCOREThe SVC women's tennis team earned a 5-4 decision over visiting Washington & Jefferson College, improving to 5-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.
The Bearcats trailed 2-1 after doubles play, with
Susie Ellis and
Jackii Hauser picking up an 8-2 victory at the #1 position for the lone SVC triumph. That forced the hosts to make a strong comeback in singles.
Saint Vincent got straight set wins from Hauser at #2 singles,
Lucy Bujdos at #3, and
Breana Liberoni at #6. After Brianna Morrison won the #5 match over SVC's
Anita Onufer, the Bearcats held a 4-3 edge, but the remaining two matches on the court went to a third set. Kathryn Chase of W&J won a third set tiebreaker 7-5 to win the #4 match over
Autumn Miller, but Ellis was a winner in her third set, 6-3, over Courtney Brennan to seal the victory for Saint Vincent.
SVC is now 7-4 overall and has concluded the home portion of the 2015 schedule. The team now heads to the road to face Fairmont State on October 11 in a non-conference match, before wrapping up the regular season at Bethany and Waynesburg.
