LATROBE, Pa. (April 24) - A strong first half paved the way for the Saint Vincent women's lacrosse team to a 17-9 victory over Transylvania University in the inaugural ORLC Tournament semifinals at Chuck Noll Field.

The victory helped the Bearcats advance to the ORLC Tournament Championship match tomorrow against second-seeded Thiel College. Saturday's championship match will begin at 4 p.m. at Chuck Noll Field. The Bearcats and Tomcats will face off in a rematch of last year's PAC Women's Lacrosse Championship. The two teams played a thrilling regular season match back on April 11, with the Bearcats pulling out a 16-15 victory.

SVC opened strong, scoring the first eight goals of the match. Molly Snyder, Hannah Carroll and Maggie Nelson each scored two goals apiece during the early match run. Transylvania finally got on the scoreboard with 7:13 to play in the second half. The Bearcats rattled off the final three goals of the half, as Carroll, Nelson and Snyder each added another goal. SVC took an 11-1 lead into the break.

The second half of the match was a little more competitive. Transylvania outscored SVC 6-3 to bring their deficit down to 14-7 with 8:28 to play in the game. Goals by Snyder and Carroll helped Saint Vincent put away the match for good, making it 16-7 with less than seven minutes to play.

The visiting Pioneers scored two of the final three goals of the match to close the score at 17-9 and held SVC advance to a conference championship match for a third straight season.

Snyder tallied a match-best 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) to lead the Bearcats. Snyder surpassed the 100 goal mark for her Bearcat career in the semifinal victory. Nelson and Carroll each added four goals to help a balanced Bearcats offensive attack. Senior goalkeeper Michelle Mitchell started in net and played all 60 minutes to earn the victory.

Saint Vincent held a 28-18 in shots and a 17-11 advantage in draw controls in the match.

With the win, the Bearcats set a new school record for wins in a season with 12.

This marks the third straight season that Saint Vincent and Thiel will meet in a conference championship matchup. Thiel took the PAC title 15-13 back in 2013, while SVC beat the Tomcats 18-14 for the 2014 PAC crown.
