BOX SCOREThe Saint Vincent women's tennis team defeated Waynesburg University by a score of 8-1 in a non-conference, season-opening matchup at the SVC Courts.
Waynesburg earned the first point of the day with an 8-0 win in #1 doubles, but SVC won the other two partnered events and didn't look back. At #2 doubles,
Sarah Selip and
Carson Snyder were 8-3 winners, while
Amanda Marker and
Emily Egler won the #3 doubles match by the same score.
In singles,
Susie Ellis dropped the first set of the day, 4-6, before storming back with a 6-2 win in the second, before winning the tiebreaker by a 10-8 tally.
Jackii Hauser was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at #2 singles.
Lucy Bujdos, making her collegiate debut in the #3 singles spot, earned a tough 7-6 win in the first set before taking the second, 6-0.
The remaining three singles players,
Autumn Miller (#4),
Anita Onufer (#5) and
Breana Liberoni (#6) all kept the scoreboard clean, with straight set 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Saint Vincent returns to action on Friday, hosting NCAA-II Seton Hill University at 4PM. SVC and Waynesburg will meet again on October 2 in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match.
