PHOTO GALLERYLATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 19) - The Saint Vincent women's soccer team used a dominant performance to earn a 3-0 shutout over visiting Hilbert College on the SVC Turf.
The victory improved Saint Vincent to 3-4 overall on the season and was the second straight shutout of the week for the Bearcats. Meanwhile, Hilbert dropped to 3-3 for the season.
Saint Vincent shrugged off a slow start offensively, tallying the match's first goal in the 34th minute of the contest. Senior
Meghan Smith scored her sixth goal of the season, taking a pass from sophomore
Maggie Nelson, making it 1-0 Bearcats.
The score stayed that way until freshman
Natalie Luppold scored her fifth goal of the campaign, coming off a pass from senior
Emily Johns in the 57th minute. That gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead.
Johns finished off the scoring, adding an insurance goal for SVC in the 63rd minute of action. Johns this time was assisted by Luppold.
SVC dominated the action, outshooting Hilbert 28-10 for the match and held a 14-6 advantage on goal. The Bearcats had a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Saint Vincent looks for its third straight victory when they travel to Muskingum University on Saturday, Sept. 25. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
