LATROBE, Pa. (Oct.1) - The Saint Vincent volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Carey Center, falling 3-1 to Westminster in a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup before bouncing back with a 3-0 victory against Medaille (NY) in non-league play.
Things started well for Saint Vincent against the Titans, as the Bearcats rallied for a 25-22 set one win. However, Westminster rattled off set wins of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-23 to take the match and gain a season split of the head-to-head meetings.
Senior
Emily Samara led the Bearcats with 11 kills.
Marisa O'Dell tallied nine kills, nine digs and 23 assists in the loss.
Sydni Massinger collected 30 digs and
Sarah Wozniak added a team-best four blocks.
Saint Vincent swept the second match of the day over visiting Medaille. The Bearcats won by set scores of 25-19, 25-16 and 30-28 over the Mavericks.
The Bearcats were very balanced, as O'Dell and Wozniak each collected eight kills. Seniors
Kayla Stockenus and
Emily Vaughan both added six kills in the win.
Danielle Wassick tallied five blocks to lead SVC, while Massinger and O'Dell each had 16 digs.
SVC travels to Juniata on Tuesday, Oct. 4 for a non-conference road contest. Start time is slated for 7 p.m.
