PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Oct. 26) - The Saint Vincent women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 road defeat to Chatham in a night contest at Ellis Field.
After playing to a scoreless tie for nearly the entire 90 minutes of regulation, the host Cougars used a Julie Bruening goal in the 86th minute of play to secure the Presidents' Athletic Conference win for Chatham.
The Bearcats out-shot Chatham by a 17-16 margin, but the Cougars put more shots on goal than SVC (11-7). Chatham attempted four corner kicks to just one for SVC.
Sophomore
Natalie Luppold paced the offense with a team-best four shots, including two on a goal. Sophomores Caity Petrusza and
Calsey Holshue each added three shots. Sophomore
Corinne Burk played the first half in goal, shutting down the Cougars and collecting four saves. Junior
Melissa McCarthy made six saves in the second half.
Saint Vincent drops to 3-8-5 overall and 2-5-1 in PAC play. Chatham kept their PAC Tournament hopes alive, improving to 6-2 in the league and 11-3-2 overall.
SVC wraps up the 2016 season with a home contest against Geneva College on Saturday, Oct. 29. Start time is slated for 2 p.m. at the SVC Turf.
